Daniel Cohn-Bendit (Danny the red) put it rather well back in the seventies, when a reporter thrust a mike into his face as he was getting off a plane to ask for his reaction to something or other "Man, you might as well ask the next guy behind me in the line what he thinks! We don't have leaders like that any more."
Genuine broad consensus made possible by instant communication is what it looks like. Whether a tidal shift like that will affect the clowns with their greedy paws on the levers of power, and to what extent, remains an open question.

But on Easter morning? I just got back on the computer this afternoon and noted "the nun's story" has made its way round the country.

Subject: ***SPAM*** FW: An Old Nun
An old nun, who was living in a convent next to a construction site, noticed the coarse language of the workers and decided to spend some time with them to correct their ways.
She thought she would take her lunch, sit with the workers and talk with them. She put her sandwich in a brown bag and went over to the spot where the men were eating and with a big smile said: "And do you men know Jesus Christ?"
They shook their heads and looked at each other, confused.
One of the workers looked up into the steelworks and yelled: "Anybody up there know Jesus Christ?"
One of the men up above yelled down: “Why?”
The worker on the ground yelled back: "Cos his wife's here with his lunch"
