The Russian chess players had it right when they said a year ago America can either default or start a war; (a war would be a biggie, of course, not some local scrap; don't forget Washington and Moscow still have multiple nuclear missiles targeted on each other left over from the cold war. Default, on the other hand, has often happened to almost all countries, and only involves swallowing some pride. In any case, Hillary Clinton's admitted deal with China, not greatly publicized (See "Eminent domain") to give China eminent domain rights over Hawaii and California as guarantee for the huge debts to China - credit default swaps total ten times all the money on earth - sort of take care of the financial arithmetic, but you can imagine how difficult it would be for the Yanks to say yes they're handing over California to pay for the debts incurred by the geniuses who run things.)
Meanwhile, everyone is broke, not only the federal government, but all the states, and of course nearly all the European countries, not just Greece, UK, Iceland, Ireland, Portugal, Italy and so on. This means in practice that all social programs, think of OAP pensions, unemployment benefit et al get cut, but meanwhile the military budget goes on getting higher and higher, well into the trillions. (Only BRIC is OK - Brazil, Russia, India, China.) The US military - a real power in US domestic politics - is clear they do not want an attack on Iran; the Israeli lobby is equally clear they must have an attack on Iran. The US is stacking up bunker buster bombs on Diego Garcia, ready to use for what?)
Into this heady mix steps Kyrgyzstan (from where the US supplies its war in Afghanistan, still hoping to build its pipelines there) kicking out the president, and is recognized by Russia, and now the Russians are making good on their promise to let Iran have S-300s, which make a frontal attack on Iran just about impossible, even by the US. And the Iranians have never lacked belligerence.

Iran is buying an ultra-sophisticated missile system from Russia to protect its nuclear sites.
The S-300's surface-to-air rockets can hit many targets at once, including in-coming cruise missiles, making any Western or Israeli strike on Iran much more difficult.
News of the multi-billion pound deal with Moscow has caused fury and fear among Western powers as they desperately try to stop the country developing nuclear weapons.
An intelligence source told The Mirror: "In the game of bluff and counter-bluff this is bad news for Israel and the West.
"The new missile system will hugely empower Tehran which already has a fairly inflated view of its military and defence capability.
"This has everyone worried - Israel because it knows the US is currently not up for attacking Tehran and the US because it knows Tehran has the upper hand."
The S-300, which Iran has been trying to buy since 2005, can hit a target at 100 miles and will be delivered to them within months.
It is a massive blow to Israeli defence chiefs who fear Iran's president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is building up a nuclear capability to attack them.
Pentagon chiefs have already written up a detailed plan to strike as many as 100 targets if they have to destroy Tehran's nuclear installations.
Bunker-buster bombs would hit underground complexes and Hellfire missiles targeted to kill the country's top scientists.
